On 20 March 2025, MVIWAMORO organized a learning tour to Arusha for 30 Youth and Women Farmers’ Organizations (YWFOs) from Msimba Village under the Forest and Farm Facility initiative supported by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO Tanzania). The tour aimed to strengthen farmers’ knowledge on sustainable forest management, climate-resilient agriculture, and alternative income-generating activities linked to forest resources. Participants included youth and women farmers, village extension officers, district agricultural officers, and MVIWAMORO staff. The visit was coordinated in Arusha by MVIWAARUSHA. During the tour, farmers visited several learning sites in Monduli District and Karatu District, where they observed practical examples of sustainable land restoration, agroecological farming practices, tree nursery production, and biogas technology. In Monduli District, participants visited the Namelock Naisho women’s group in Esilalei, where they learned about beekeeping, honey processing, community savings groups, and land restoration initiatives. The group currently manages over 90 beehives and produces various honey-based products such as soap, candles, and jelly.
In Karatu District, farmers visited the Eden Group, where they observed agroecological farming practices, horticulture production, tree planting initiatives, and conservation agriculture techniques. Participants also toured a biogas demonstration site, learning how biogas systems can provide clean cooking energy while producing organic fertilizer for farming. The tour concluded with a visit to a farmers’ center in Karatu, where participants explored facilities including tree nurseries, honey processing units, horticulture demonstration farms, a local seed bank, and a market center for agricultural products. The learning tour provided valuable insights on climate-smart farming, forest conservation, and entrepreneurship opportunities, encouraging farmers from Msimba to adopt sustainable practices that can improve livelihoods while protecting natural resources. MVIWAMORO believes that farmer-to-farmer learning and knowledge exchange are powerful tools for promoting sustainable rural development and strengthening community resilience to climate change.
